Mars Retrograde in Gemini: Slow Down

When you feel anger arise, ask yourself: What feels unfair?

This helpful exercise can give insight into your relationship with anger and frustration, and it may come in handy over the next few months.

Mars, the cosmic gas pedal, has turned retrograde (Rx) in Gemini, the sign associated with thinking, communicating, and information. Mars will be Rx until January 12, 2023!

I love how astrology reveals cycles and patterns. The planet of action was previously in Gemini in March/April 2021 (forward motion), and last Rx here during January 2008. What was happening for you then? Are there themes that reverberate now?

It’s also worth noting that the North Node* swept through inquisitive Gemini from May 2020 – January 2022, also bringing eclipses on the Gemini/Sagittarius axis; collectively we were asked to embrace curiosity and beginner’s mind, and to let go of thinking we know it all. How did we do with that? With Mars Rx in the sign of the Twins, we’re now being given a second chance (how appropriate – it’s Gemini and we’re doing it twice!) to look at this area of our life and try again.

Interestingly, the Nodes naturally move backward through the zodiac, and Mars is now moving in that same direction. If you’re feeling an itchy echo from May 2020 – January 2022, be aware that the same area of your chart is getting stirred up by the cosmic spoon. The flavor may be slightly different – Nodes and eclipses are not the same as Mars Rx – but there are similar ingredients, so familiar overarching themes may arise.

Generally, folks may be quicker to anger during this time, and feelings of frustration may be more common. Mars – the planet of action, assertion, and going after what we want – prefers forward motion, not being stuck in neutral or doing the moonwalk.

How is your relationship to anger? How are you at setting boundaries? Are you good at thinking before speaking or taking action?

This is a good time to grab your road map and plan with purpose and intention. Clever Mercury, currently in penetrating Scorpio, rules the sign of the Twins; perhaps you’ll see things you didn’t see before. And Mercury and Mars have a symbiotic relationship right now – Mercury rules Gemini and Mars rules Scorpio. It’s like they’re house-sitting for each other!

Mars will move from 25°- 8° Gemini. Do you have any planets or points in this range, particularly in the signs of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, or Pisces? What house/s does Gemini occupy in your chart, and where are you getting the chance for a do-over?

*The Lunar North Node is a point, not a planet. It’s where the apparent path of the Sun and Moon intersect from our earthly point of view. In astrology, the North Node represents our collective path forward. The South Node is always exactly opposite the North Node, and represents what we are being called to let go of.
